Summary

Duties and Responsibilities of a Production Geologist include:

  • Plans, coordinates, monitors and interprets underground diamond drill ore definition programs
  • Geologically interprets assay and diamond drill data using the appropriate estimation method to estimate ore block tonnage and grade;
  • Provides ore outline/grade and tonnage profiles on individual work places and provides monthly stope grade forecasts;
  • Coordinates daily activities with the Engineering/Survey and Mine Departments
  • Geologically maps and samples ore headings and maps development waste headings and coordinates/monitors the sampling of development headings. Ensures data accurately updated in mapping and sampling database;
  • Produces production and statistical reports, evaluates and defines mine ore reserve and maximizes the mine ore grade and our mining reserves;
  • All other duties as may be assigned.

Requirements

  • Sc. in Geology or Geology Technician diploma with considerable applicable work experience.
  • Registered GIT or P.Geo with APGO preferred.
  • >5 years working in underground gold mining environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Lifting, up to 20 kg ground to waist height occasionally, carry equipment distances for measuring purposes
  • Occasional push pull
  • Daily standing, walking over uneven ground.

Desirable Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong academic and applied background in structural geology preferred
  • Exceptional computer skills
  • Experience with geological software, preferably Datamine skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Self starter and ability to work unsupervised although strong team player
  • High safety standards
  • Exceptional time management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor subordinates.
Rate of Pay Salary, Commensurate with experience and qualifications
