RATE OF PAY: 

Salary, Commensurate with experience and qualifications

 

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Plan, design and implement electrical layout to ensure continuous supply of electrical energy
  • Use sophisticated electrical testing equipment to help make appropriate repairs and replacements
  • Maintain work orders, invoices and inventories
  • Prepare material list and complete purchase requisitions
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure completion of work projects
  • Supervise, inspect work being performed by electrical department employees and electrical contract service providers, assuring work is done in accordance to regulations and within reasonable time frame
  • Ensure safe working conditions and procedures
  • Draw up procedures
  • Assist in hiring and performance review decisions upon request from management
  • Read and interpret drawings, circuit diagrams, blueprints and electrical code specifications to determine wiring layouts for new or existing installations in order to figure out how to set up new electrical installations/systems or how to fix existing ones
  • Laying down wires; splicing and connect wires; install switches, circuit breakers and lighting fixture; and test to make sure everything is working
  • Install brackets and hangers to support electrical equipment
  • Install, replace and repair lighting fixtures and electrical control and distribution equipment, such as switches, relays and circuit breaker panels
  • Splice, join and connect wires to fixtures and components to form circuits. Connect electrical power to equipment, devices and heating and cooling systems
  • Test continuity of circuits using test equipment to ensure compatibility and safety of system, following installation, replacement or repair
  • Analyze electrical systems and equipment to figure out why they aren’t working, exactly where the problems are and how to fix them
  • Conduct preventive maintenance programs on electrical equipment and keep maintenance records
  • Repair and maintain all electrical equipment and process control
  • Maintain lighting, switches and electrical equipment in safe working order
  • Install wiring circuits for extensions and additions to work sites
  • Carry out electrical fitting, high voltage switching and electronics
  • Maintain communications and telecommunications systems
  • Responsible for establishing and ensuring ongoing supply or power from generators to plant and accommodation units
  • Ensure safe work practices near electrical outlets
  • Must comply with the Occupational Health & Safety Policy
  • Must comply with the Environmental Policy
  • Must comply with the Environmental Policy
  • Has a good knowledge and background in Hoisting plants
  • Has a strong background in surface Electrical Installations
  • Is available to work in emergency call outs on occasion
  • Any other tasks assigned provided the incumbent is qualified to do the work

Qualifications

  • Completion of secondary school is usually required
  • Valid Ontario electrical trade qualification or deemed competent by Management
  • Strong background and understanding of distributed control systems (DCS), programmable logic controls (PLC) and microprocessors
  • 4 years of experience, preferably in underground mining or a similar environment is required, excluding apprenticeship
  • Self-starter with a solid technical background and proven troubleshooting skills, using electrical schematics and HVAC reticulation circuits.
