Rate of Pay: Salary, Commensurate with experience and qualifications

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • H&S Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that safety standards are maintained, tracking/investigating accidents and compiling statistics.
  • H&S Coordinator is responsible for induction, training, and organizing required training to meet the department standards.
  • Observes and instructs on safe work practices and procedures.
  • Ensure the site executes and complies with the elements of the Health and Safety Management programs.
  • Prepare safety related reports and update H&S statistics.
  • Assist in the planning, development and implementation of specific health and safety programs as directed.
  • Develop training initiatives as part of the health, safety and wellness of the KL Gold H&S team.
  • Identify, monitoring and correcting health and safety hazards.
  • Provide technical advice and guidance on health and safety issues.
  • Monitor employee adherence to safety regulations and enforce proper health and safety protocols.
  • Promote safe and healthy working conditions and recommend ways to improve overall safety conditions by developing strategies to control risk in the workplace;
  • Perform periodic site inspections in order to assess risk and ensure all safety regulations and protocols are adhered to and meet applicable safety standards.
  • Responsible for understanding the health and safety goals and strategies for the company and working with the HSR Manager to develop targets to achieve fiscal, strategic and legislative requirements.
  • Responsible and accountable for supporting operations in terms of safety meetings, huddles, developing and managing procedures and standards and providing guidelines for safe work including developing and reviewing standards, procedures and JHA’s ensuring all health and safety measures are being taken and accounted for.
  • Support of inspections and audits for the HSR department, JHSC and approved request of other committees/depts that requires inspections/audits.
  • Manage incident reporting and structure of incoming data.
  • Capacity to development of Health and Safety Standards, Procedures and conducting Job Hazard Analysis’.
  • Responsible for ensuring site compliance to local (Provincial) and National legislation.
  • Ability to deliver induction and orientation of new employees.
  • Inspect, audit and evaluation of health and safety management systems, workplace conditions, equipment and practices.
  • Responsible for the development of health and safety materials required for presentations including but not limited to videos, power points etc.
  • Custodian of Integrated Management System (Document Control) consistent with KLG standards
  • Responsible and accountable for the management of the Mine Rescue team and personnel.
  • Other duties as directed from time to time


  • Minimum High School Diploma.
  • Must be self-motivated and have the ability to motivate others and initiate change that yields positive results in terms of health and safety.
  • A solid knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations for Mines and Mining Plants is essential.
  • Trade certification or designation considered an asset.
  • Degree or Diploma in OHS considered an asset.
  • CRSP Designation considered an asset.
  • Must have demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Must have strong and effective communication skills verbally and written.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.

Desirable Knowledge and Skills

  • Train-the-Trainer considered an asset.
  • Additional leadership experience and training considered an asset.
  • A solid background in the Mining Operations or a combination of suitable experience is required.
  • Must have strong computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Suite of software and EHS software
  • Must be a strong multi-tasker and must excel at coping with multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Must be highly self-motivated and team oriented with attention to detail.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to act with integrity, honesty and respect in all situations
