SHIFT SCHEDULE 5/5/4, 12 hrs, D/N
RATE OF PAY Hourly, commensurate with experience

Duties and Responsibilities includes:

  • Completed & ongoing competence with required core modules:
  • Operate Cage, Shaft Maintenance, Operate Skip, Fall Arrest Training, Oxy-Acetylene Cutting, All shaft duties, Rigging & Slinging.  Per the KLG Underground Mining Classification Guideline.
  • Demonstrate competence/awareness in relevant UG Hardrock common core.
  • Housekeeping – keep work areas clean free from hazards
  • Communication – listen to and communicate with others, keep accurate records on 5 point card, aligning with daily tasks
  • Teamwork – work with others to meet and where possible exceed daily KPI’s set by Supervisor
  • Receives daily crew line up;
  • Moves people, material and explosives into the cage;
  • Maintains good housekeeping practices within the headframe, as well as all other work areas around the headframe;
  • Assists shaftman/cagetender with shaft/manway inspections and maintenance if required;
  • Assists millwrights with rope and conveyance change outs if required; and
  • Assists in the maintenance of the ore and waste bins on surface if required.


  • Minimum 2 years experience as a Miner 3 or equivalent (>4 years UG)
  • Physically Fit, self starter with can do attitude
  • Tolerance for cold, hot and humid environment, temperature variation
  • Demonstrated Safety awareness
  • Literacy and Numeracy to minimum year/grade 10

Physical Demands and requirements

  • Shift work Day and Night
  • Ground to waist height up to 30kg occasionally, 10 kg frequently
  • Waist to shoulder height up to 30kg
  • Carry up to 30 kg
  • Occasional to frequent heavy push pull. Occasional sitting
  • Constant standing. Constant walking over uneven ground
  • Occasional to frequent working in awkward positions – squatting, kneeling, bent over
  • Working with arms overhead
  • Tool use
  • High physical strength and endurance demands
  • Environment conditions can be: hot, humid, wet, dusty. Lighting is restricted. May be excessive noise. Airflow is artificial.
  • Ground conditions may be wet, muddy slippery, sloped inclines, loose rocks and obstacles on the ground.
