Shift Schedule: Full time - Monday to Friday
Rate of Pay: Salary commensurate with qualificatons and experience

Kirkland Lake Gold has a shaft sinking project at its key asset Macassa Mine in Kirkland Lake ON. The shaft will be a concrete lined shaft 21.5 foot diameter. Phase 1 will be to a depth of 5450 feet and include a mid shaft loading pocket with a completion date of 2022 and a budget of $240M. The second phase will extend the shaft to a depth of 7000 feet with an additional $80M budget and a completion of 2023.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • This position reports directly to the VP Projects, and will manage the on-site contractors, oversee all aspects of the shaft sinking project with a foremost attention to safety advocating safe behaviour while incorporating safety into the design, responsible for production, site construction, site inspections, daily work reviews, liaising between the Contractor and the Company, project inspections, troubleshooting questions and concerns. Monitor progress to plan and issue review reports.
  • Champion health, safety, while being proactive with contractors to promote a safe and hazard free work.
  • Participate in all safety associated activities with the underground development and infrastructure construction, corrective action notices, audits, accident/incident investigations reporting, job analysis, safety meetings etc.
  • Coordinates with project director, contractor leaders, design engineers, procurement, planning and scheduling and other personnel in setting and maintaining priorities to ensure timely performance sufficient to keep the underground works on schedule and within budget.
  • Manage the on-site contractors to ensure project field procedures within the underground works execution plan, including scheduling, planning, quality management, and performance management, have been established.
  • Review the underground mine works daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports submitted by the contractors to ensure that safety, quality, schedule, design and specification requirements are achieved or exceeded.
  • Ensure adherence to all local, organizational and statutory requirements affecting the project site and underground mine workings.

Qualifications and Experience

  • The successful applicant should have 8 to 10 years experience in Mine shaft sinking, as an owner and contractor representative on the projects.
  • Project Management background with a commitment to safety as the number one KPI, and a successful track record of leading projects meeting KPI’s.
  • An Engineering degree is considered an asset.
