Summary

We have two vacancies in the Mine Department for the position of a Mine Operations Engineer in Training (EIT). 

Duties and Responsibilities of a Mine Operations Engineer in Training (EIT) include:

  • This role will report directly to the Mine Superintendent and provide technical assistance to the operations team as required with a focus on improvements within department. 
  • Provide technical assistance to operations team as required with a focus on improvements within department.
  • Maintain operations' focus on mine plan and strive to achieve or surpass budgeted targets, and ensure mine plans are communicated to the operations team.
  • Responsible for overseeing and tracking new operational projects as required (developing AFEs, etc.)
  • Work within operations department in continuous improvement projects; such as but not limited to identifying areas where productivities or cost effective saving can be improved and implemented.
  • Responsible for daily/weekly/monthly reports tracking operational activities vs. planned.
  • Responsible for developing and implementing time study projects as required, and tracking progress.
  • Responsible for developing and implementing quality control/assurance practices and programs as required.
  • Active participation in safety, environmental and quality control processes and initiatives.
  • Coordinate and compile operational items within mine operating and capital budgets as required.
  • Provide engineering support for underground mining operations.
  • Ensure mine operate in a manner consistent with existing department policies, programs, procedures and legislative/regulatory requirements.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of BSc Mining Engineering with a minimum of 2 years of progressive "hands on" professional experience, with the majority in underground mining.
  • Must be eligible to register with Professional Engineers Ontario.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Significant experience with long hole and cut/fill methods of mining, with exposure to other mining methods as an advantage.

Desirable Knowledge and Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational and presentation skills.
  • Strong people skills and an ability to work in a team environment.
  • Must be a self driven individual, able to work independently and lead projects.
  • Working knowledge of mine design software is an asset (AutoCAD, Promine, Deswik).
