Duties and Responsibilities of a Longhole Driller include:

  • Completed & ongoing competence with required core modules:
  • Operate longhole drilling rig in an underground environment. Additional work may include loading explosives, installation and grouting of cables for support.
  • Prepare daily reports of all drilling activities which include ; footage drilled, ground conditions, time spent performing other activities besides drilling, reporting supplies consumed, etc.
  • Competently perform all Mining 1, 2, 3 & 4 functions (Services & Construction)
  • Able to drill with CMAC and air buggy drills
  • Read and understand planned drill patterns
  • Wash, scale and prepare areas for safe mark-up activities
  • Ability to drill at a high standard and control deviation
  • Do minor repairs to rig: Replace hoses, shank adaptors etc.
  • Timing/Firing of EZ Dets and DigiShot
  • Demonstrate competence in relevant UG Hardrock common core,
  • Housekeeping – keep work areas clean free from hazards
  • Communication – listen to and communicate with others, keep accurate records on 5 point card, aligning with daily tasks
  • Teamwork – work with others to meet and where possible exceed daily KPI’s set by Supervisor
  • Manage your own health and safety while at work and avoid adversely affecting the health and safety of others.
  • Comply with all instructions given by the employer, which relate to health and safety.
  • Report immediately any injury or harm to your health, which has occurred in the course of your work.
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Minimum 2 years experience as a Miner 2 or equivalent (>6 years UG)
  • Physically Fit, self starter with can do attitude
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Good Communication skills are essential
  • Strong understanding of longhole mining methods and procedures
  • Blasting experience is an asset
  • Underground common core is required
  • Tolerance for hot / cold and humid environment
  • Demonstrated Safety awareness
Rate of Pay $ 32-34 hour ( based on experience and qualifications)
